To give a more tangible understanding on how old this therapy form is, Auricular therapy/ear acupuncture was mentioned in the most famous of ancient Chinese medical textbooks. "The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine." which is the first ever discovered text about Chinese Medicine dating back 2500 years BC.
Ear seeding emerges as a potent and gentle form of auriculotherapy and are integral to TCM, a practice that's been around for thousands of years. Originally, they were actual seeds from the Vaccaria plant, used alongside acupuncture to support overall wellness. In Chinese Medicine, the ear mirrors the entire body as a microsystem, housing numerous acupressure points crucial for both physical and mental healing.
Instead of needling the ear you can use ear seeds to achieve a continual pressure getting comparable results if done correctly. These treatments target specific points to support organs and the function of the endocrine system, promoting balanced energy flow and restoration.
What is an ear seed actually?
Ear seeds are petite stickers (4x4mm) traditionally containing a mature seed from the Vaccaria plant at the center of the sticker. Replicating the appearance of a natural seed there are now being used alternative “seeds” like magnets or stainless steel.
These stickers/seeds are applied to specific acupuncture points on the ears, either by a trained acupuncturist og at home with a DIY kit containing ear maps with specific points. The adhesive part of the sticker ensures the seed stays in place of the chosen pressure point.
When applied the seeds enables individuals to delicately stimulate the acupuncture point through gentle pressure. It is a perfect alternative for people with needle fears or busy schedules, making it easy to treat yourself.
